Designers have moved on from last season’s painterly surface finishes, channelling their inner sculptor to create architecturally moulded daywear with an austere sophistication. Overcoats of tiered felted wool were tulip-like at Proenza Schouler, while squared-off collars sat up proud at Maison Martin Margiela. Sculptural day dresses played with polished precision at Jil Sander in tweed Stockman silhouettes; Marc Jacobs inflated the sleeves of his panelled portrait dress (we suspect in homage to a late ’80s Princess Diana). As for pants, they remained lean to balance raglan-sleeved cropped jackets at Balenciaga, or pleat-waisted to anchor fitted origami blazers at Bottega Veneta.
