Buttons, Velcro, Baler twine – when it comes to fastenings, they’re so last year. The love affair with zips started four seasons ago when we first noticed the exposed zip – snaking up an expensive Lush Lanvin dress.  The normally hidden teeth and fabric were exposed. Alber Elbaz - Make the zip look both curiously attractive and outrages – as if it had been mis –stitched in a deliberate move of defacement of a beautiful garment. But we adjust are perceptions since then and when the knitted top at Cos hit the run way last season it looked pleasantly classy. And now zips are everywhere, some fitting into the punkish, fetishistic vibe while other looks create refined looks – Mulberry or New Look garments.

So throw away notions of zips just being there to preserve public decency. Handbagsm heels, pockets cuffs and even dresses are getting zippy.
