Burberry Prorsum
"She's a luxury warrior. It's a bit more rock," said Christopher Bailey, laughing. "I've been listening to a lot of Deep Purple and Iron Maiden." Chiffon, tulle, and organdy dresses frequented the runway, paired with light weight coats, dressed up with edgy studded leather cinch belts, chains and jet black boots. The preppy Burberry image was not far. The removal of a simple accessory and Christopher Bailey’s Iron Maiden collection is transformed from ‘luxury warrior’ to understated chic in the blink of an eye.
D&G
The design team of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana took inspiration from the fusion of peasant-hippie and rock chic festival for their always controversial label D&G. This collection called for detailed tunics and incredible vibrant maxi-dresses in a burst of coloured prints. Frayed patched denim flares and mini-skirts paired with masculine blazers and oversized jumpers offered a more neutral pallet. The injection of glamour came at the arrival of bronze croc jackets, metallic minis; gold and crystal bedazzled wide legged trousers and understated neutral chiffon dresses. Gladiator sandals were the shoes of the moment.
Giorgio Armani
The remote southern islands of Italy were donned Armani’s inspiration; an entire collection seemed enthused by a lustrous head scarf. Gypsy chic undoubtedly embodied the spirit of the collection. Bejewelled head scarves, harem pants and an array of beaded tanks were contrasted by the use of minimal dark classics. The scarf single handily morphed into short dresses, low level skirts, shawls and one shouldered tunics, which ever so slightly revealed a glimpse of crystal encrusted tanks. Armani’s ventures continue over and beyond his couture collections, as he announced his plans to collaborate with Sumsung electronics for a range of mobile phones and LCD flat screens.
Just Cavalli
Kate Moss in rural Africa springs to mind for Roberto Cavalli’s collection. African printed dresses and Masai beads featured in his collection. Motocross jackets and pants, a short orange thigh skimmer, animal prints and mini dresses, embody his strong fusion of biker chic and primal desires.
