Lauren Moshi the new La La Land trend crush!

January 31, 2009

It’s a Lauren Moshi invasion as the La La Land fashionistas Lauren Conrad, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Rachel Bilson and Sienna Miller hot leg it around the Hills with their newest find.

This LA-based brand has gone down a storm as their throw-on-and-go tees and vests are snapped up. And here’s the reason why the T’s are made of super soft cotton making them perfect for layering up in winter and staying cool in the summer. Plus, each one bears a motif - current designs include a tiger, elephant and zebra - which are all hand-drawn by Lauren Moshi herself, meaning each individual item is one-of-a-kind.Team your Moshi buy with skinny jeans or leggings.

January 30, 2009

Calvin Klein hasn’t produced a TV commercial for its Jeans line since the Eighties — remember those Brooke Shields ads? — but the brand will soon be back on the airwaves with a commercial that is so provocative it initially was banned from even late-night cable TV. The brand is used to this kind of attention — last year its steamy commercial with Eva Mendes for the Calvin Klein Secret Obsession fragrance Read the rest of this entry »

Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring 2009

January 29, 2009

Sharp lines and rapturous curves — they comprise both calligraphy and couture. So perhaps it makes sense that Jean Paul Gaultier, a master at working a theme, connected the dots. The result was a collection that was often beautiful, even though multiple subplots weakened the core message. Read the rest of this entry »

Christian Lacroix Spring 2009 Haute Couture

January 29, 2009

The collection, as expected, was very colourful and beautiful, mixing ultra feminine and romantic looks, with a touch chic of masculine tailoring.

The colours were vibrant, tropical for some pieces, and there were also prints, stripes and heavy embellishments.

The show opened with military inspired looks, then a series of tailored suits, followed by dresses with boleros, puffy skirts, flamenco-style dresses, and then the gowns. Each one more spectacular than the next.

January 29, 2009

As Britain’s edgiest underwear brand, Agent Provocateur has never shied away from in-your-face advertising. It brought us Kate Moss’s spooky dream sequences, a steamy strip from actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and an orgy-style photograph featuring Peaches Geldof, Alice Dellal and Daisy Lowe.

Snakeskin Satchel Stars in Elie Tahari’s Spring/Summer 09 Advertisement

January 29, 2009

Israeli born designer Elie Tahari has unveiled his new spring/summer 2009 ad campaign. It stars the stunning Italian model, Angelina Jolie lookalike Bianca Balti.

I love the way Terry Richardson has photographed Bianca, with his favorite flash techniques illuminating her dewy skin. I’m not sure anyone could make those clown-like Heather pants look good, but Bianca does her best with the gold spotted trousers.

Those harem pants might not have won me over, but I can’t help drooling over her snakeskin satchel. It’s called the Nico, and it’s promising to be one of Elie Tahari’s best-selling accessories this season. The pale python finish could so easily appear washed out, but the hand-painted gold detail and polished gold hardware gives the handbag some added flair.

Blair Waldorf’s Opera Dress

January 29, 2009

Since we all couldn’t get our weekly fix of Gossip Girl last night (what was up with the rerun?), we felt we had to try and give it to you ourselves. Although the fashion in this episode wasn’t very plentiful, since the girls were in their school uniforms most of the time, it all came out at the opera. Oh the opera! The girls all looked beautiful and the night’s star was Ms Blair Waldorf herself as usual. Her Dior Resort 2009 dress was out of this world. For the first time with Blair’s fashion choices, we can actually look forward to buying it instead of scouring for it on Ebay.

Ricci Business

January 29, 2009

THE plot thickens at Nina Ricci; just weeks after it was rumoured that the label’s parent company, Puig Fashion Group, may not renew creative director Olivier Theyskens’ contract when it ends in October, Louis Vuitton designer Peter Copping is now reportedly in the frame to take the reins.

While no comment has been issued by any of the parties involved, WWD reports that Copping has already handed in his resignation at Vuitton - where he has worked for many years under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs - and that “tensions” between Theyskens and Ricci management could lead to an early severance of their partnership.

Dita Watch

January 29, 2009

Dita is all over couture week so I have decided to post what she wears when I can find it.
Here she is at the Eli Saab Haute Couture show in an elaborately ruffled suit.
Probably Dior.

I find Dita somewhat fascinating if only for the sheer effort that she must put into her daily attire. Actually let me modify that statement. It’s easy to get dressed - even if this out fit looks elaborate its really a jacket, a skirt and a pair of shoes and a bag. That is not so hard. But the hair and make-up - that takes effort and time. And its not like she just does this for the sake of a couture show. Nope, she does this daily, like a woman of the 1940s.

LookBook - Sales Assistant Christina Albina loves her Chanel Sunglasses

January 29, 2009

Sales Associate Christina Albina loves vintage from places like What Comes Around Goes Around, but she also loves labels. The day our Video Look Book caught her she wore Miu Miu, Tory Burch, Jill Stuart, Burberry, and two-tone Chanel sunglasses. Why two-tone? “Why? I don’t know! Ask Karl Lagerfeld,” she said. “He created them, and they only made 200 pairs and everywhere I go everyone’s like, ‘Where did you get those from?’ I’m like, ‘Chanel and there aren’t any more and I’m not selling them to you.’ ” Watch the Video Look Book to find out which fashion item she loves more than clothes.

NY Times Says It Had Designer’s Permission To Discuss His Partner

January 29, 2009

We heard from NY Times Style editor Trip Gabriel overnight, and he says no way did his paper out Jason Wu, inadvertently or otherwise. Full denial after the jump.

Yesterday, a tipster told us Jason Wu, who has been enjoying a publicity bump following Michelle Obama’s appearance in one of his gowns at the inauguration, had been effectively outed to some of his extended family by his profile in the Times Sunday Styles section. Writer Eric Wilson’s mention of Wu’s boyfriend, Gustavo Rangel, was, we heard, the first some of his family members had heard about his sexual orientation. Read the rest of this entry »
